Goals
The Latin American Campaign for the Right to Education wishes to contribute to the realization of this right by considering each and every dimension, strengthening civil society's national and regional instances so that they promote changes in education policies. More specifically:
- Education shall be reaffirmed as a human right; its universal, free and compulsory character shall be ensured without discrimination of any kind;
- Education, being a fundamental human right and a public good, shall be guaranteed by the State based on the Rule of Law and it shall not be considered as a commodity;
- Education policies in the region shall be at the service of society and reflect a broader concept of education throughout life, as stated by the World Education Summits in Jomtien and Dakar, challenging the approach of the World Bank and the Multilateral Financial Institutions;
- The States of the region shall have a comprehensive approach on education, articulating all its levels and modalities without failing to attend the variety and flexibility of the proposals on curricula;
- Youth and Adult Education, including learning processes, shall be a priority in the countries' agenda, with an cross-sectoral approach;
- States shall ensure the realization of the right to education through an adequate and protected financing that guarantees the social watch over the Budget Cycle , from the macroeconomic programming up to its execution;
- The equality and non-discrimination perspective shall be a fundamental axis of education policies;
- Participatory democracy shall be strengthened; a larger participation of the civil society in debate and decision-making processes within education legal and policy frameworks shall be guaranteed;
- Education for peace shall constitute a collective building process to consolidate ways of coexistence and non-violent conflict resolution.
